Q&A
How would you describe your teaching style?
My teaching style is invitational and reflective, it invites you into your own body so you can use your intuition to guide your practice. I value weaving in somatic movement, lots of breath practices, and longer holds so you have time to notice your energy and cultivate curiosity + compassion.
Was there a moment when you knew that teaching yoga was for you?
I knew teaching yoga was for me halfway through my yoga teacher training program 6 years ago. Every thing I learned about the practice LIT me up. I especially loved yoga philosophy, it described the practice in a way that I couldn’t put into words before. The practice had changed my life so profoundly that I just wanted to share it with everyone I met. Even when teaching was scary or challenging at first, it always excited me. It felt like what I was meant to be doing.
What is your favorite class to teach at HAUM, and why?
My favorite class to teach AND take is slow flow & sound bath. I love slowing down, turning inward, and moving mindfully. Yoga isn’t a workout for me, it’s a work in. I like to leave practice feeling grounded and clear-headed as I move through the world.
What is your favorite class to take at HAUM?
Answered above!
Is there a moment from teaching at HAUM Studios that has stayed with you?
The community! I love how everyone likes to chat before and after class, and getting to see familiar faces.
What can students expect when they walk into one of your classes?
Students can expect to be welcomed no matter how they’re coming into the space. My class has no expectations, I encourage you to go at your pace and drop into what you need. Whether you’ve had an exhausting stressful day, or are at ease and craving a bit of energy, my class is a balance of both worlds where you can take or leave whatever serves you. You can expect to walk away feeling relaxed and present.
BIO
Juliana was first introduced to yoga in 2012 by a close friend in her hometown, and has found solace in the practice through every significant life transition since.
Juliana’s teaching is influenced by her background in psychology and yoga therapeutics. Her classes weave together breathing practices, intentional movement, and sound to cultivate union among the body and mind. Juliana believes yoga is a form of community (sangha), so every time one person practices, that ripples out into everyone they interact with. She intends for her classes to feel like a warm, inviting space where play is always welcome.
