Taylor Chang

She/Her

Teacher
Hatha, Restorative, Slow Flow, Vinyasa

How would you describe your teaching style?

While rooted in the structure and tradition of yoga, I leave room for creative expression, self-direction, and honoring the unique experience each person brings to the mat. My classes blend movement and stillness, contemplation and play, effort and ease, with the hope that practice can feel both grounding and medicinal. Regardless of class format, I teach at a slower pace and often weave in themes from yoga philosophy, psychology, and spirituality. You can expect invitations into self-inquiry, moments of reflection, and opportunities to connect with the wisdom of your own body.

Was there a moment when you knew that teaching yoga was for you?

When I noticed that teaching is when my mind goes silent and I feel connected to something bigger than myself

What is your favorite class to teach at HAUM, and why?

Friday mornings at 9 a.m. Hatha feel like a community ritual a spacious opportunity to return to yourself while feeling connected to others. This crew is always willing to begin the day and close the week with curiosity, experimenting with new ways of moving, seeing, and being. This time on a Friday feels like dipping into the energy of retreat from the comfort of home.

What is your favorite class to take at HAUM?

Any class with Juan and Yvonne is super food for the soul.

Is there a moment from teaching at HAUM Studios that has stayed with you?

When a student brought flower peddles and sprawled them across each students mat creating mini alters of beauty!

What can students expect when they walk into one of your classes?

Soul and R&B music will be playing, you’ll always need a bolster (maybe even two), and people will be in oversized clothes cozily already in savasana.

Taylor Chang is a hapa (half Chinese, half white) woman, yoga teacher, community gatherer, writer, and somatic psychotherapist in training who cultivates spaces for playful self-inquiry, creative expression, authentic embodiment, meaningful human connection, and ritual. Nature, Buddhism, ceremonial spaces, sound, and the wisdom of the body are her greatest teachers, medicine, and muse. A seeker at heart, she is drawn to exploring the depths of what it means to be human while remaining rooted in the beauty and mystery of everyday life. Rooted in the structure and tradition of yoga, her classes blend movement and stillness, contemplation and play, effort and ease, taught at a slower pace and woven with themes from yoga philosophy, psychology, and spirituality. Whether through breath, movement, stillness, reflection, or song, Taylor creates spaces where people feel safe enough to be authentic, supported enough to let their masks soften, and connected to something larger than themselves.
